Many pregnant women enjoy creating a specific birth plan for their delivery. Navigating topics like: who do they want in the delivery room? Is there certain music or scents that they’d like to incorporate into their delivery? Do they want to use anesthesia or not? What do they need to pack in your hospital bag? There are so many factors to consider when thinking about your birth, and for many women, planning and preparing for this special day can help them feel more confident and in control. But how does your provider feel about your birth plan? Let’s talk about it.
Our providers are happy to discuss your birth plan at your pregnancy appointments, and it is our hope that you feel as comfortable and prepared as possible on the day of your delivery. As providers, value having these conversations with our patients and trying to help the patient’s desires feel seen and heard. However, even more than pleasing our patients, our number one priority is to have a healthy mom and a healthy baby during & after delivery, and sometimes that means not following the birth plan perfectly.
As providers, we try to honor your birth plan as much as possible, and yet we will always prioritize patient care and safety above all else. Maybe it’s not your hope or plan to have a C-Section, but the doctor deems it medically necessary to ensure that your baby arrives safely. Through the process of delivery, we ask our patients that as they come to us with a birth plan, that they also keep an open mind with our providers as they make recommendations about delivery. Our number 1 goal is to make sure that baby & mom are safe & healthy, and that may mean that we need to make adjustments to the birth plan .
Pregnancy & delivery comes with inherent risks. Although pregnancy is a common experience for many women, it is not a risk-free experience, which is why we monitor our patients regularly throughout their pregnancies. Life and health are unpredictable, and this unpredictability shows up at times during deliveries. We want our patients to feel as in control of their deliveries as possible, but as doctors, we ask for your trust as we navigate the unpredictable nature of deliveries. We are trained, compassionate, and experienced, and we are held to a standard of patient care and safety above all else.
For some patients, the experience of pregnancy & delivery feels unpredictable and out-of-control, and we hope that you are taking care of your mental health during this time, as pregnancy can often increase anxiety. Our providers can help connect you with mental health services during and after pregnancy to help you feel more supported; often these services are covered by insurance and can be a great support as you navigate your pregnancy & postpartum journey. We are so grateful for your trust in our practice & our providers. We delight in being a part of your pregnancy experience, and we thank you for choosing Omega.
