- You deserve to have a provider who cares about your pregnancy loss. Your Ob-Gyn has likely worked with hundreds (or more!) patients who have experienced a miscarriage. Even though miscarriage is quite common, you deserve to have a provider who cares about your pregnancy loss. Your provider can answer questions and give you recommendations to support you both during and after pregnancy loss. At Omega Ob-Gyn, our providers are incredibility compassionate in addition to being highly trained, skilled, and experienced, and we are proud to say that our providers care deeply about their patients & their losses.
- Responses to pregnancy loss varies. When learning that they are experiencing a miscarriage, some patients are devastated, emotional, angry, or detached. Your response to your loss is valid, and will likely differ from others who have experienced a pregnancy loss. Your response may even differ from that of your partner. Having empathetic support from friends and family who can help you during & after your loss can make a world of difference.
- Most things don’t cause miscarriage. Most miscarriages are caused by genetic malformations that are not preventable. The American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology has stated that: “Working, exercising, stress, arguments, having sex, or having used birth control pills before getting pregnant do not cause miscarriage. Few medications can cause miscarriage. Morning sickness—the nausea and vomiting that is common in early pregnancy—also does not cause miscarriage.” (learn more here: https://www.acog.org/womens-health/faqs/early-pregnancy-loss)
- Many women experience heightened anxiety after pregnancy loss. Many women feel more anxious during and after a miscarriage. Trying to get pregnant after pregnancy loss is anxiety-inducing for many women. Although anxiety doesn’t cause miscarriage, finding support to healthily cope with anxiety can be a key factor in helping you enjoy your pregnancy and stay healthy. Omega Ob-Gyn partners with Family Well to provide mental health support (such as therapists & coaches) to women during & after pregnancy (and this can include miscarriage too). Family Well services are often covered by insurance, and your Omega provider can help you connect with these resources.
